LEGAZPI CITY – Lheslie De Lima from the province of Camarines Sur ran on barefoot and defeated all other contingents in the 3k meter dash to grab the first gold in the concluded Palarong Pambansa held at the Quirino Stadium in Vigan City on April 14 to 21.
De Lima, 13 years old and an incoming grade 8 student of Baao National High School said that this is also her first gold medal ever since she started joining track and field events in the Palaro. De Lima already grabbed 3 silver medals in the elementary division when she was in grade 5.
De Lima ran closely with another barefoot athlete Camilla Tubiano from Mindanao in the last 200 meters of the said event, but the latter could not stop De Lima’s strong finish. (C. Gonzales/P. Medes)
